Owning A Small Business

Almost everyone dreams of having their own small business. My cousin John is living the American dream- making money from a chain of Chicago restaurants and being an established business owner. But he must say that getting to where he is now was a tough job.

In our family, it has been a tradition of engaging into small business. My dad used to run a construction company and my uncle used to have a furniture shop, but with the tough times, no one had available work for me. Not until John called me and gave me a job in his first restaurant.

That time, John told me that he got the money to put up the restaurant with him convincing credible investors. But later on I found out that he just got himself a small business license. During our first month, all we did was just to clean until the restaurant is all ready to start doing business.

During our first week, nothing happened. It was a total disaster for our day of opening, with the power even going out for as long as six hours. All we did the whole summer was to help the business survive.

The only secret that John has is simply persistence. He worked all day and night, without giving up. I saw it as tiny breaks coming his way that he collected to become one huge success.

He was even featured on our local newspaper's entertainment section and even became a sponsor to kid's league. After that, he was putting up his second restaurant, and then his third and so on. John's career was indeed made up of hard work which made everything much sweeter.
